ServiceNow engaged MP to provide design services for their new location. Wanting to stay true to their roots in the tech community, MP sought out to design a unique, colorful, and amenity rich space.

The large common spaces, such as the café, game room, and collaborative “boulevard” keep the space active and engaging while mixing business with fun. Exposed mechanicals and polished concrete floors provide a modern and industrial backdrop that is accented by pops of vibrant color throughout the space.

Technology-enabled conference, huddle, and phone rooms are located throughout the space, allowing ServiceNow to maintain communication with clients all over the world. The balance of acoustically sensitive large meeting spaces and private spaces were crucial. ServiceNow utilized a motorized height adjustable benching furniture layout in the main open office spaces to maximize headcount.

The Zipcar “brand” has been incorporated into the design of the space, including large graphic displays and small scale references to the branding concept.

Throughout the project, sustainable design has been a focus, including new high-efficiency lighting, reclaimed wood paneling, and creative re-use of building elements.

After several years of steady growth in their Cambridge offices, Zipcar was ready for a change. Their HQ was arranged in several separated suites, causing them to feel disconnected from each other. Looking to unify all departments, Zipcar chose to move to a 46,000 square foot converted warehouse in Boston’s Innovation District and to create the “Zipcar Building.”

The new Zipcar HQ was a great opportunity to re-imagine their office space as an entire community. The space has been designed as a flexible work environment to support the dynamic growth of the company. The project includes a new lobby with views directly into the company gathering area and living room, conference, and training space; individual and collaborative work areas; and dining areas.

After assisting in the renovations for National Development’s property asset at 101 Station, MP provided design services for a new tenant – The Predictive Index. PI is a fast-growing firm, adding more than 30 employees in a year, and needed a new office expressive of its brand and culture that could help it attract and retain talent. Even though they had doubled their space, PI needed a flexible space to accommodate future growth.

Working closely with designer Lannhi Tran of Little Dragon Decor, MP created the new headquarters to be reflective of the company’s commitment to employee engagement and teamwork. Huddle spaces in the café offer flexible meeting spots. The firm’s signature red is a brand color splashed throughout the offices. A large percentage of the walls are demountable, providing the team with more glass and writable surfaces than would be available with a traditional stick-built environment. The demountable wall system also allows for more flexible expansion options for the fast-growing firm.

In 2008 MP designed the new 36,000 square foot headquarters for Sapient, a global leader in business and technology consultancy, creating an open office and collaborative culture, which was indicative of the way the company was working at the time.

Four years later, the company expanded their market and acquired a new division called SapientNitro, an award-winning digital marketing and technology services firm. Due to this expansion, they leased an additional 22,000 square feet in their current building and re-hired MP to develop a new workplace strategy to reflect the changes in the company and to attract both clients and existing and new employees.

Through extensive research it was clear that Sapient was open to a dramatic change to their current culture: They no longer felt the need for a formal reception area, but rather a space that could be included in presentations and act as an impromptu meeting area for employees to bump into each other.

Rather than their current workstations, they have adopted the concept of condensed benching system to provide more pockets of space for alternative workplaces for individual and collaborative work, team meetings, and war rooms.

MP provided design services for renovations to the headquarters of National Development, one of New England’s largest development companies. The design opened the ceiling to brighten the space and used an abundance of glass to promote transparency and light. Providing space planning and interior design services, MP substantially updated the office design and relocated amenities to create an open, modern, and collaborative space for staff.

A connecting staircase was designed to unite the second floor with the third floor multi-use café, which features a bar with custom cabinetry and high-top tables along the perimeter of the lounge area. A reclaimed wood feature wall creates a comfortable, at-home feel. To allow National Development’s operations to continue during construction, MP phased the renovation schedule and used available swing space.

Over the years, MP and National Development have collaborated on several building repositioning projects in Massachusetts, including the 101 Station Drive office building at University Station in Westwood and the medical office building conversion of 200 Unicorn Park in Woburn.

MP provided a new work environment for this multinational software company that better aligned their workspace with its European design standards. Moving from the original location – spread across two buildings – to three floors in a single building, Dassault sought to increase collaboration between departments. To support this, MP created multiple space types, including open collaborative spaces with whiteboard surfaces, several small meeting rooms for more formal discussions, and a central café space that doubles as an employee hub and overflow conference space.

The open work areas are arranged in “neighborhoods” composed of multiple workstation types arranged in clusters of four to six. High wall elements flank each open office area to establish smaller, more intimate work areas and offer a variety of support areas, such as two-person enclosed meeting rooms, each with dual monitors and whiteboards, and high open storage/whiteboarding elements.

All private offices and enclosed meeting spaces are located on the interior of the building. Combined with lower workstation panels and frosted glass dividers, the design lets natural light fill the space.

Having previously provided design services for the approximately 329,000 SF Blue Cross Blue Shield Hingham headquarters in 2007, Margulies Perruzzi was again engaged to provide several renovations to the facility for this long standing client. Renovations included a new conference center, open office spaces, cafe, and a variety of lounge/amenity areas.

The 10,000 SF conference center is comprised of four separate conferences rooms separated by contractable wall partitions, giving flexibility to users to create a variety of different sized conference rooms. Adjacent to the conference area is a lounge/cafe space, providing a conviently located space for collaboration and conference reception. Additionally, outside the conference center is an outdoor patio area, providing additional gathering space.

Branding was incorporated throughout to create custom moments as you walk through the spaces and tie in the new with the existing spaces. The open office spaces provides strategic neighborhoods of workstations, increasing communication and collaboration amongst staff. Adjacent to the open office is a stunning lounge area located in a tower overlooking the Hingham campus. This area provides a space for informal gatherings and respite for staff, as well as a large area for formal gatherings and office events.

Margulies Perruzzi designed a new U.S. headquarters for Cimpress and its well-known brand Vistaprint, a global supplier of customized marketing products and services to micro businesses and consumers. Designing the interior fit-out concurrently with designing the base building for Hobbs Brook Management, MP was able to leverage their understanding of the building to allow for greater creativity in design solutions.

A two-story lobby was designed to maximize branding opportunities. To promote greater inter-floor circulation, MP designed a monumental staircase in the lobby, adding glass and upgraded finishes to make the stair a convenient and compelling way to travel.

MP created an open and collaborative workspace design, supplemented by support spaces custom-tailored to Cimpress’ work style. Every desk is equipped with sit-to-stand technology, letting employees freely customize their space.

The common spaces use an all-LED light fixture package to minimize maintenance and maximize energy efficiency. A networked digital lighting control system monitors and regulates energy usage.

Amenities include a living green wall in the cafeteria, a fitness center and a game room. Bike racks and showers are provided for biking commuters, with a dedicated shuttle service to the Alewife MBTA Red Line station.

The Boys and Girls Club of Boston provides youth with enriching opportunities to help reach their potential. Their new location at 200 High Street is comprised of three smaller, combined suites. Given their non-profit status, the BGCB retained Margulies Perruzzi to not only provide them with an impactful workspace but to also do it as economically as possible.

MP reused much of the existing construction while also deploying a vibrant color and finish palette as well as branding intended to connect visitors and staff to the mission of the organization. Meeting spaces were provided in sizes that best accommodate how the BGCB actually works. The new workspace provides an environment that is welcoming to both visitors and staff.

Nitsch Engineering’s award-winning civil engineering firm has worked with countless architects, so we were honored when they retained MP to design their new office space. Their previous space at 186 Lincoln Street was spread over three floors and failed to reflect their values: advocacy for sustainable site design and a creative, collaborative culture. MP designed their new space at Two Center Plaza to enhance teamwork, allow for easy team realignments, and serve as a welcoming environment for clients, partners and staff alike.

The design strategy created two zones, the ‘public’ and ‘private’ zones. The public zone sits at the front of the suite for reception and meeting spaces. It includes conference and training spaces supporting Nitsch’s ongoing client events, all of which are enabled with audio visual technology. The main training space doubles as the primary office pantry, melding the social hub of the firm with its primary training venue.

In the private work zone, MP pushed all private offices away from the window line in order to provide natural light to the workstation environment. Private offices feature all glass fronts to enhance collaboration with staff and to allow in natural light, and workstation partitions were kept low. This setup allows natural light deep into the suite interior.
