About this Project

CIEE, the Council on International Educational Exchange, is a nonprofit international exchange and study abroad organization that sponsors a wide variety of immersive learning opportunities. They have locations around the globe that draw design inspiration from regional architecture and local culture.

MP designed the new Boston HQ on A Street in South Boston to be an urban destination for staff and students alike. The 1920s era brick and beam former Rivet factory provides a historic and industrious backdrop while also informing the material palette for both public facing spaces and office workplace. The new Boston HQ provides outdoor seating in a private courtyard that compliments an inviting building entry to the 1st floor. On the 1st floor there is a custom reception area, inspired by the industrial elements of the building, that allow individuals to be guided towards the library and café environment facing A Street or the training and meeting spaces which are situated away from distractions. On floors 2-5 there is a mixture of open office and office spaces along with various meeting room sizes. On the 5th floor there is a private terrace dedicated for employee use to work during the day or to support event functions. As part of this project there were zoning approvals required, interior and exterior signage and comprehensive energy code studies to review MEP systems as part of the office design.
